Customers often contact us asking if it is normal for the second hand on their watch to not line up with the hour markers. Of course, there are questions about whether something can be done about this phenomenon. In today's article I will try to explain the whole thing.

If you too have a watch whose seconds hand does not overlap directly with the indexes, but jumps to a position just before or behind them, or even between them, believe me, you do not have to worry. Your watch is fine. The misaligned seconds hand is a feature of the movements, not a defect. This behaviour plays an important role in watches and is somewhat indispensable. Rubicon Watches explain why below;

The misalignment of the second hand with the indexes on the dial is caused by a gap between the teeth of the gears in the movement gear, the so-called backlash. We encounter this clearance to a greater or lesser extent in all movements, as it is necessary for their proper operation and functioning. Gear clearance plays a very important role in watches.

In simple terms, it can be said that a certain clearance is necessary for the smooth running of the gears, because despite the set standards, the gear wheel does not have a perfect shape. If there was no clearance between the teeth, the entire gear could get stuck. The clearance thus helps to eliminate the influence of possible manufacturing deviations of the wheels and their gearing. In addition, the parts in the watch are not all exactly the same size, despite the great precision of the machining. The will thus also takes into account these possible imperfections and deviations.

Some watches arrive with a shipping protector (C-clip) designed to keep the crown pulled out, saving the battery until the watch is used. To start the watch, pull this U-shaped tab off from between the crown and the case, then push the crown in securely.

All UK orders are handled by Royal Mail, who will leave you a card if you aren't in when delivery is attempted.

International orders are handled by Fedex. Fedex International Connect orders are passed to the domestic delivery service who will finalise delivery in your country.

Unfortunately, on occasion, parcels may not arrive within the agreed timescale or could be lost completely. Under these circumstances we will contact the delivery company and lodge an investigation. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund or replace a purchase until this investigation has come to a close. The timeframes for this are as follows:

  • Royal Mail - 10 working days
  • FIC - 21 working days
  • Fedex Express - 21 working days

If tracking information indicates that your parcel has been delivered, but you have not received it, we will launch an investigation. We will investigate with the delivery company but, in the meantime, we kindly ask that you check your property (garden, behind bins, etc.). Please also speak with your neighbours, as we have found in the past that delivery companies will often leave your parcel with a neighbour if you aren't available.

It is your responsibility to raise a case with us within a reasonable length of time, typically 30 days. After 30 days, there is no possibility of the delivery company investigating and, therefore, we will be unable to replace or refund your order.
